Skellingthorpe Road to close for refresh

Road works: Skellingthorpe Road will be closed over the weekend for some much-needed improvements.

Skellingthorpe Road will undergo a summer refreshment and will be closed from Friday, June 3 and over the weekend as the work starts.

The work at the weekend is the first stage of improvements and will involve patching the carriageway before the second stage of resurfacing later in the summer.

David Underwood, the Senior Highways Officer, said: “We’re pleased to be providing this section of Skellingthorpe Road with a much-needed refreshment as part of our surface dressing programme over the summer.

“This is a well-used road which has suffered deterioration over time, particularly after the two recent harsh winters, so we’re making repairs now before it becomes a danger.

“We hope people can bear with us during the unavoidable road closures this will require, as we extend the life of the road and create a safer and smoother experience for all road users.”

Skellingthorpe Road will be closed to all through traffic Friday, June 3 (7pm until 11pm), Saturday, June 4 (8am until 6pm) and Sunday, June 5 (8am until 6pm).

The diversion routes will be via the A46 bypass, Doddington Road, Tritton Road, Skellingthorpe Road and vice versa, but all routes will be signed whilst the road works are going on.
