Lincoln artist wins Strait street furniture challenge

Winning design: A Lincoln artists has won a competition to make a special feature for the bottom of Steep Hill.

An artist in Lincoln has won the challenge to create a special piece of art for a historic area in the city.

Lincoln BIG set up a challenge for residents to design a piece of “street furniture” — be it an archway or interesting feature — on The Strait, the area linking High Street and Steep Hill.

Of the 19 entries, artist Lea Goldberg scooped the top prize with her design, winning £500.

For now, the winning design to fill a 15 foot space at the bottom of The Strait is being kept under wraps.

As well as creating her own art, which range from paintings to sculpture, Lea also co-ordinates the Lincoln Artist’s Market.

Lincoln BIG created the competition on behalf of the Bottom of Steep Hill Traders’ Group, who regularly hold the event Fete on the Strait.

Lea’s idea will now be discussed with local traders and City of Lincoln Council planners before being developed.
