Head injury found: A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a 33-year-old local man whose dead body was found on Portland Street in Lincoln.

A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a 33-year-old local man whose dead body was found on Portland Street in Lincoln last weekend.

The incident was treated as an unexplained death up until now, but further post-mortem analysis has revealed that the victim died of a head injury.

A dedicated team of detectives is now working to establish exactly what took place.

Police were first called to a bed-sit on Portland Street before midday on Sunday, June 16 after reports that a body had been found.

Officers attended the scene and recovered the body of a 33-year-old local man. Police are not yet in a position to name the deceased as the next of kin have not been informed.

There will be a significant police presence in the area over the next couple of days as officers carry out their enquiries, Lincolnshire Police said in a statement.

Police said there is nothing to suggest this is anything other than an isolated incident at this stage and local officers will be in the area for residents who have any concerns to talk to.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information on this incident, or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the High Street end of Portland Street between Friday June 14 and the morning of Sunday June 16, to get in touch with them as soon as possible.
