Time Team visit at Lincoln Castle on Channel 4 this week

Prison secrets: Channel 4 will air an episode of Time Team this week dedicated to the dig at Lincoln Castle’s Victorian prison.

A popular Channel 4 history programme paid a visit to Lincoln Castle recently, and the episode of their discoveries will air this week.

History and archaeology show Time Team visited Lincoln Castle in March to learn about the Georgian and Victorian prison in the grounds.

The Time Team Special episode will be aired on Channel 4 on June 30, from 8pm.

As part of the Castle’s big refurbishment plans, areas around the prison were dug out, unveiling some fascinating archaeological finds.

Time Team crews had access to the entire extent of the Lincoln dig, which demonstrated the experiments Victorians used to push prisoners to their limits.

The punishments uncovered would have led to people dying or going mad, but according to the dig, something more sinister happened within the prison.

These prison findings are in addition to other discoveries in the ground and walls of the Castle, such as a holy deposit, church and coffins.
