Lincoln businesses are being encouraged to get involved in the Workplace Challenge, a new fitness initiative promoting healthier living and a more active lifestyle for 2014.
Organisers from Lincolnshire Sport met with the Running Imp at Waterside Shopping Centre in Lincoln to launch the eight-week activity challenge.
Companies are invited to sign up and log all exercise done outside of working hours. Each activity log earns points, and companies can compete against each other for the chance to win prizes.
The company with the highest number of points will win a day out at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest, for up to 20 people, courtesy of Center Parcs Conference and Events and will clinch Lincolnshire Sport’s title of the “Sportiest Workplace in Lincolnshire”.
In addition, the individual male and female with the highest number of points will win a Carrera Subway bicycle from Halfords, usually retailing for £400.
Lincolnshire Sport will also be awarding daily spot prizes throughout the challenge, including: cinema tickets, perfume, gym passes, spa vouchers and more.
Perhaps you saw the Lincolnshire Sport Team at Waterside on Thursday 9 as they served smoothies from an exercise bike.
Chantelle Henderson, Marketing Coordinator at the Waterside, said: “The Workplace Challenge is a fantastic and motivating initiative, bringing colleagues together and promoting an overall healthier and active lifestyle.
“This is the first of many events the Waterside will be hosting alongside the Lincolnshire Sport to look forward to over the upcoming year, and we are encouraging all our retailers to take part in the challenge.”
Amy Story, Physical Activity Project Officer at Lincolnshire Sport, said: “We are urging businesses of all shapes and sizes to get signed up to Workplace Challenge, along with their employees.
“Not only does Workplace Challenge help to get people active in the workplace, but it creates a great sense of team work and camaraderie within the office.”
Waterside Shopping Centre has chosen Lincolnshire Sport as its official charity of the year and will be hosting a variety of fitness events events throughout the year.

2023’s word of the year, ‘rizz’, is turning heads and raising eyebrows – but not everyone’s in on the secret!
Defined as a blend of style, charm, and that magnetic pull for romantic endeavours, ‘rizz’ is the Oxford University Press’s latest linguistic star. But, is it just a trendy term or a new staple in our vocabulary?
