Sections of two Grimsby town centre roads will be closed over the weekend to allow for resurfacing work to take place at the Riverhead bus station.

The work will see the blocks replaced with tarmac from George Street to Town Hall Street, starting on Friday, October 28, with completion by Monday, October 31.

George Street and Victoria Street West will be closed from 7.30pm on the Friday until 5am on the Monday.

Works to the junction of Town Hall Street and Victoria Street West will be carried out in five hours between 11.45pm on the Friday and 5.15am on the Saturday.

This will enable Town Hall Street to be re-opened all weekend to keep bus stands H, J and K in operation.

Bethlehem Street and Osborne Street will be resurfaced under night time road closures between 7.30pm and 5am each night, with diversions in place.

Buses

Temporary bus stands will be formed on the Riverhead area where the old bus stands used to be, and an additional temporary stand will be created on Victoria Street South near the Hope and Anchor.

These temporary stands will be operational between 8am and 6pm on Saturday 29 and Sunday, October 30.

After 6pm all bus services will operate from Town Hall Street.

Throughout the weekend marshals will be on hand to direct the public to the correct temporary stand, plus information signs and leaflets will be available to passengers.

Once the works are completed at the bus station area, carriageway resurfacing will continue to take place as part of the ongoing Grimsby town centre accessibility improvement scheme.

Bus services will also be suspended along Bethlehem Street and Osborne Street during the night-time resurfacing.

Stagecoach will erect posters within bus shelters to advise on alternative pick-up points.

Trains

There will be access to Grimsby Train Station every night apart from Wednesday, November 2.

Taxis

To maintain taxi provision on the evening of November 2 a temporary rank will operate on Osborne Street, with signs in place to help direct taxi users to the rank.

Councillor David Watson, cabinet member for environment, said: “These two carriageway resurfacing projects have been co-ordinated to minimise disruption to the travelling public and to ensure all works are completed before winter, Remembrance Sunday weekend and the busy Christmas period.”
