A pensioner bravely fought off a man trying to rob him as he parked his car in Grimsby.

The 78-year-old man was getting out of his car on West St Mary’s Gate between 6.30pm and 7.15pm when he was approached by the suspect who asked him for money.

The victim said he did not have any and after a physical struggle the man fled.

The suspect is described as between 25 and 30, of slim build and was wearing dark clothing.

Police believe he spoke with a local accent.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log 429 of January 3.

This attempted robbery comes just one day after an 83-year-old woman was robbed in the street in Scunthorpe.
