Three Lincolnshire Conservative Party officials removed from positions weeks before general election

Three officials from the Sleaford and North Hykeham Conservative Association have been removed from their positions, six weeks before voters go to the polls in the general election.

The Conservative Party confirmed that the three had been moved out of their positions in accordance with party rules.

They have not been suspended.

No names or reasons have been given by the party for the decision, which is believed to have been made on April 21.

However, Lincolnshire Reporter understands that one of those removed is the chairman of the association, George Clark.

Speaking on the phone to Lincolnshire Reporter, Clark said that he had been “moved” from the chairman role but could not make any statement.

A staff member working in the association’s offices also refused to be drawn on the issue, saying: “I’m just an ordinary worker.”

A Conservative Party spokesperson said: “Three officials from the Sleaford and North Hykeham Conservative Association have been removed from their positions in accordance with party rules​.”​

Richard Butroid has been appointed acting chairman of the association.

The constituency is one of the safest Conservative seats in the country, with current MP Caroline Johnson holding a majority of more than 13,000.

The paediatrician was elected in the 2016 by-election, called after the resignation of former MP Stephen Phillips, who quit because of policy differences with the government over Brexit.
