Dad claims he was scammed by Boston teen after trying to buy iPhone 8 for his son

A Hertfordshire dad has said he is the latest person to fall foul of a scam on Facebook after trying to buy an iPhone 8 for his son from a Boston teenager.

Calum Beaton, 47, who lives in the village of Cuffley, close to the M25, saw an advert for the iPhone at £350 on a general mobile phone selling page on Monday, January 15.

In screenshots seen by Lincolnshire Reporter, Calum said that he told the teenage woman that he was really interested in buying the phone, but could not pay the amount in full at that time.

To his initial delight, he claims that the woman, who in the messages between the two goes by the name of Chloe, said that he could put down a deposit down, and pay the rest later.

He said that he was told that the phone was going to be posted by special delivery from the Post Office on the same day.

However, from this point, Calum said that he was unable to contact the teen.

Speaking to Lincolnshire Reporter, Calum said: “I feel a bit embarrassed if I’m being honest. I’m usually really hot on this sort of thing and warn other people about being caught.

“I’m glad that it was only £50.

“She needs to be caught, she’s done it to about 17 or 18 other people I’ve been told.

“I’m a bit annoyed with Facebook as well for facilitating this.”

Calum has reported the incident to Action Fraud and police.

This is not the first time someone has come forward to complain that they have been scammed by the same person.

In November 2017, Helen Graper, 44, who lives in Nottingham, said that she was scammed out of £200 when trying to buy an iPhone 7 from the Boston teen.
