Lincoln Brazilian restaurant is closing — and they’re blaming The Lincolnite

They received the lowest hygiene rating in Lincoln.

The Tiago Lincoln Brazilian restaurant has now closed after it received a very poor hygiene rating from City of Lincoln Council inspectors.

The venue however is blaming The Lincolnite for publicising the story, which allegedly led to their immediate closure.

In December Tiago received 1 out of 5 stars for hygiene after City of Lincoln Council inspectors visited the premises.

The information became public in late January and The Lincolnite reported the story in the public interest and safety.

Before publication of the first story the venue declined to comment despite persistent requests from The Lincolnite journalists. It didn’t reply to comment requests after publication either.

Tiago first opened in October 2016 in what used to be Brewhaus. We were the first publication to show off the venue in an exclusive tour.

But on February 8, 2018, Tiago Lincoln posted on its Facebook page that it will be closing with immediate effect.

Here is their statement in full:

“It is with great regret that we have had to take the decision to close Tiago Lincoln with immediate effect following an article in The Lincolnite publicising an inspection from Lincoln environmental health [inspectors].

“Whilst we agree on the day of the inspection, on the week before Christmas, we fell short of the standards we consistently adhere to, the team addressed the shortcomings on the same day.

“A further inspection by the council resulted in the following statement:

“[Unnamed City of Lincoln Council official] ‘I can confirm that the points raised in my schedule have been addressed.

“’I was pleased to see the improvements since the initial inspection on 15th December 2017.’

“One of the major issues we had on the day was that the hot water boiler had broken, we were not open at the time and did not reopen until it was fixed, however this weighed heavily in the marking.

“Unfortunately however, due to the dramatic reduction in bookings since the article, the business is simply no longer able to fund itself and we are left with no option but to close the doors.

“We would like to thank all our loyal customers and staff and wish you all the best for the future. Team Tiago.”

Tiago Lincoln still appears with a 1/5 hygiene rating on all official websites.
