Crews rush to tackle freight train fire after brakes overheat

Train fire on the hottest day of the year.

A fire started on a train in Lincolnshire after the brakes overheated, leading to delays across the network on the hottest day of the year.

The fire broke out on a goods train at Wickenby, near Market Rasen, after a set of brakes overheated.

Four appliances from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene and used thermal image cameras to monitor the temperature.

The line was blocked while emergency services dealt with the incident and there were a number of subsequent delays on the line between Lincoln and Grimsby.

Disruption on the Grimsby Town and Lincoln Central line are expected until around 4pm, according to National Rail Enquiries.
