Peep Show star Robert Webb received an honorary degree with University of Lincoln graduates at a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

The Boston-born comedian, best known as half to the comedy double act Mitchell and Webb, was awarded a Doctor of Letters at the ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral before taking to the stage to address the students.

Robert Webb said: “I am literally being honoured today, and that’s really how it feels to me. I was surprised and delighted to be asked and thought, ‘what a lark’, it would be rude not to.

“My advice to those graduating is to find something you love and take every opportunity to practice it – and there should also be a plea for tolerance, like every good episode of Star Trek.”

As previously reported, Lincoln-born hockey player and Olympic Gold medallist Georgie Twigg MBE and satirical cartoonist and illustrator Gerald Scarfe CBE will also be given honorary degree awards later this week.
