Bulky waste collection to tackle fly tipping in North East Lincolnshire

People have been complaining about long delays

Councillors in North East Lincolnshire have approved a bulk waste collection scheme for the region in an effort to tackle fly tipping.

The new service will be rolled out in early 2019 with an online booking system and “straightforward” pricing structure.

North East Lincolnshire Council said the new system will also have shorter waiting times.

It comes as people have complained that they have had to wait up to 10 weeks for their waste to be collected and that the service was too expensive.

Now, following approval from senior councillors, dedicated crews will divide their weeks collecting bulky waste upon request among other duties.

The authority said the move will help to encourage people to recycle and reduce fly tipping.

Councillor Matthew Patrick, cabinet member for environment.

Councillor Matthew Patrick, cabinet member for environment, said the scheme is part of a “wider issue”.

“I think it is fair to say that the previous scheme was not fit for purpose for the council or the customer,” he said.

“For the customer, we need to make sure that it is value for money.”

Council leader, Ray Oxby, said the move showed the council is making moves on enforcement in the environment.

“We are very strong now on going forward on enforcement,” he said.

“We are taking what is seen as a priority in the community and tackling it on a number of different levels.”
