Branston road to close for 11 weekends

It will start later this month

Drivers in a Lincoln village will face 11 weekends of road closures due to Eastern Bypass works starting later this month.

The B1188 Lincoln Road through Branston will close for a series of weekends starting on Friday, January 18.

This is due to essential earthworks, drainage works, utility diversions and ducting installation.

The closures will take place from 6.30pm on Fridays until 6am on Mondays each planned weekend on the following dates:

  • January 18-21
  • January 25-28
  • February 1-4
  • February 8-11
  • February 15-18
  • February 22-25
  • March 1-4
  • March 8-11
  • March 15-18
  • March 22-25
  • March 29-April 1

The diversion route for the closure will be via South Park Ave/South Park to St Catherines to A15 to B1178 to B1188, and vice versa.

No traffic will be allowed to pass through the works while underway, including emergency service vehicles.

Executive Member for Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, Councillor Richard Davies, said: “Closing Lincoln Road in the week for an extended period of time would cause too much disruption to Lincoln’s road network and the traveling public, so we’ve decided to close the road for a series of weekends instead.

“During this time, Galliford Try will carry out the preliminary works for the new Lincoln Road roundabout, including earthworks, drainage, ducting and utility diversions.

“Another series of weekend-long closures will be announced in the coming months, which will allow the project team to actually start building the new roundabout.”
