Body recovered from Humber Estuary confirmed as female

Police have officially confirmed that the body recovered from the Humber Estuary near the Grimsby Docks yesterday was a female.

As reported previously, officers made the discovery of a body on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 21.

No formal identification has been determined at the time of writing and a post mortem examination is expected to continue into Thursday evening.

Humberside Police are currently investigating the disappearance of Hull university student Libby Squire.

The force said in a statement: “Following the recovery of a body from the Humber Estuary yesterday afternoon, we can confirm the deceased is a woman.

“The post-mortem examination is underway and is expected to continue into the evening.

“We have been in contact and informed those that needed to be made aware of the recovery.

“Formal identification is still yet to take place and we remain unable at this stage to confirm her identity.”
