First walk on the Brayford pontoon

Posted by The Lincolnite on Friday, 5 April 2019

Network Rail installed a pontoon linking Brayford Wharf East to the University of Lincoln campus while the level crossing is closed for the bridge works.

The floating platform spans across Brayford Pool from the jetty to the shore next the current bridge over the water, which is closed to pedestrians during the bridge works.

Work to install the pontoon started on Monday and the structure opened to pedestrians just before 9am on Friday, April 5.

The structure was completed on April 5.

The Brayford level crossing bridge works stated in October 2018 and were meant to be finished in February. Due to issues with the ground works, the completion date is now expected to be in mid-May.
