‘Meteor’ seen in Boston and Lincoln skies

Videos were captured by local residents

A flash of light in the sky believed to be a meteor was captured on camera in a Boston village and in Lincoln on the same evening.

Mark Couzens told Lincolnshire Reporter that his camera in Bicker near Boston captured the video at 11.34pm on Monday, February 3. In the video (see above) a flash of light can be seen in the reflection of his car roof and in the sky.

He said: “I saw it when checking my cameras this morning (February 4) and didn’t know what it was. I checked the lightning map, but there has been no lightning in Lincolnshire for the past 24 hours. Therefore I just assumed it must have been a meteorite.”

Kayleigh Smith’s doorbell camera in North Hykeham caught a ball of light soaring through the area on camera the same evening, which resembled a shooting star.

According to NASA’s Solar System Exploration website, meteoroids are objects in space that range in size from dust grains to small asteroids. When meteoroids enter Earth’s atmosphere at high speed and burn up, the fireballs or “shooting stars” are called meteors.
