Strong winds to hit Lincoln this weekend

The wind has already caused damage in the county this month

Strong winds and rain will batter Lincoln and other areas of the county this weekend with the Met Office announcing a yellow weather warning.

A spell of strong winds, connected with officially-named Storm Jorge, is expected to move northeast across a large areas of the UK through Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

As a result, a yellow weather warning for wind will be put in place from 12pm on Saturday, February 29 until the same time on Sunday, March 1.

The Met Office has issued the following guidance of what to expect during the warning period:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely
  • It’s also likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

This is the latest weather warning to hit Lincolnshire after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for wintry showers and stretches of ice earlier this week.

Lincolnshire has already been impacted by high winds this month. Homes, businesses and a 176-year-old windmill suffered in the grip of Storm Ciara.
