Woman, 95, applauded out of hospital after recovering from COVID-19

The emotional moment was caught on camera

A 95-year-old woman was applauded out of a Spalding hospital as she was wheeled through the corridor on her way home after two months of coronavirus treatment.

Violet Sismey spent two months being treated at Johnson Community Hospital in Spalding.

Staff, who were all wearing face masks, lined the corridor to spontaneously clap Violet on her way when she was discharged on May 21.

Jennie Gittins, ward sister for Welland Ward at Johnson Community Hospital in Spalding, said: “We are all delighted that Violet has gone home fit and well.

“She has been an amazing character throughout her stay with us and we could not be more thrilled that she has recovered.

“As Violet left the ward, every member of the team wanted to celebrate and we all spontaneously decided to give her a round of applause to send her on her way.”
