Teens arrested after police chase stolen van that crashed into truck

Two teenagers have been arrested

A video shows the moment after a dramatic police chase on the A46 where an officer jumps up on the railings at Dunham Bridge and kicks a suspected stolen van.

Police said the van failed to stop on the A46 at Swinderby at 4.55pm on Thursday, June 4. The police chase ended with the van colliding with a Tesco delivery vehicle at Dunham Bridge.

Two teenagers have been arrested.

Eye witness Robert Baldwin told The Lincolnite that they had just pulled off of the road when he heard the sirens and saw the van at high speed crossing the bridge.

He said: “It appeared to try to get round a parked up HGV when it hit the Tesco food struck head on with a huge crunching bang.

“The police were already in pursuit and were immediately on the scene with at least six marked police cars in attendance.

“One officer had jumped up onto the bridge railings and began to kick the driver’s side window

“It was all very fast and action packed to end our nice quiet calm day out round Sherwood Forest.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “The vehicle was pursued and stopped by police close to Dunham Bridge.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failure to stop, dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle. A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.”
