Lincoln craft beer shop closing as brewers leave UK

The brewery is moving to Portugal to start a new chapter

A craft beer and real ale shop on Lincoln’s historic Strait will close as the brewing company is leaving the UK for Portugal.

The Crafty Bottle on The Strait at the bottom of Steep Hill, which is owned by the Lincolnshire Brewing Company, was opened by husband and wife duo Claire and Karl Brown in 2016. It sells real ale, craft beer, cider, and local gin and more.

The shop, which had a cosy pop-up bar upstairs, will now close permanently.

In a statement on its Facebook page, The Crafty Bottle said: “We would like to let all our customers know that we have made the decision to close our little beer shop permanently.

“As most of you know the shop is part of Lincolnshire Brewing Company and as announced the brewery is moving to Portugal to start a new chapter.

“We are very proud that we brought such a diverse shop to Lincoln, and we hope you have enjoyed the different beers that we worked so hard to source and get on the shelves.

“It’s been great fun working with all the breweries we could and we hope they continue to be successful through all the other beer outlets around the country.

“We thank all our customers who regularly supported us both prior to and during ‘lockdown’. We will miss the beery chats with you all! Cheers! Karl, Claire and Suzy.”
