By Local Democracy Reporter

A grenade that was found in Lincoln over the weekend has been destroyed by a bomb disposal team.

Police were called to a suspected explosive device near the riverbank on Waterside North at around 8.20pm on Friday, August 7.

Officers attended and cordoned off a large area of Melville Street to ensure the public’s safety, but no houses were evacuated.

The grenade was discovered by magnet fishermen who were searching the River Witham.

The device was taken away by the explosive ordinance disposal team, who carried out a controlled explosion outside of Lincoln city centre.

Lincolnshire Police Drones tweeted a video of the controlled explosion, praising the work of the EOD team.
