Lincolnshire Showground will host a new drive-in cinema experience showing classic movie favourites.

The Luna Cinema launched at sites across the country this summer, including London, Leeds and Manchester, and it will now be coming to Lincolnshire.

The first showing will be on Saturday, September 12 and Luna will run for two weeks at the Showground, finishing on Saturday, September 26.

Each car will have its own personal wireless speaker to hear the film from their vehicle, meaning car batteries won’t be drained.

Recent releases like Joker and Rocketman will compliment classics such as Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing in the showings.

Tickets will cost £29.50 per car for two people in off-peak screenings, and £35 for peak times, with additional people costing £5 each.

Family tickets are also available for £35 for general admission access to allow one car with up to five people access to the films.

Food and drinks will be available to pre-order along with tickets or on the night using a smart phone app, with staff delivering orders on roller skates and scooters.

Luna cinema will also be doing outdoor screenings at Lincoln Castle between September 16 and 20.

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said: “Since 2008, when we first started putting on outdoor cinema events, I’ve been asked countless times ‘why not expand into drive-in screenings?’.

“My answer was always that they lacked the sociable, communal quality of open-air screenings, as the audience were cocooned in their cars.

“We were also unsure of the quality of the sound experience when running through an FM frequency into the car radio.

“Fast forward to the era we are currently living in, when social distancing is the ‘new normal’, and drive-in with its immediate separation from other audience goers, is the perfect solution to get people back to the big screen.”
