The Eden Wine Bar and Restaurant, a popular bar in Grantham town centre, has said a heartfelt goodbye after closing.

The bar, situated in the market place, has shut its doors as a result of poor trading amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It opened in 2002 and was formerly the Granby Inn, but will now be closed for good.

The announcement was made via social media and the bar’s website on Tuesday.

In a statement, a spokesperson for The Eden says: “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic creating uncertainty and difficult trading conditions we at The Eden have decided to close our doors as we are no longer able to offer the service and standards we have always tried to uphold.

“We have enjoyed looking after all of you, especially our dear and regular customers.

“We would like to thank you all for your support over the past 18 years and wish you all the very best in these strange times.”

The owners took to Facebook to thank everyone for the “overwhelming” replies of support.

“We are humbled to think we may have made a difference. We always tried to deliver a good service, not always but mostly and always tried our best.

“Over the years we changed team members but never our ethos. We wanted to be your place to be.”

They have also offered out their support to anyone who wishes to take over the venue, saying they would “really love a new dawn.”
