Contractor seriously injured in Lincoln industrial incident

An investigation has been launched

A man in his 50s suffered serious injuries after an industrial incident at a Lincoln student flats site over the weekend.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the building site on Firth Road, off Tritton Road, at around 2.48pm on Saturday, January 25 after a report of an industrial incident.

An eyewitness reported seeing around six fire engines, five ambulance and a large police presence at the St Marks development site.

A contractor for Anglian Water was taken to hospital with serious injuries and police, along with the Health and Safety Executive,  launched an investigation.

Anglian Water told The Lincolnite they are supporting the individual and those around him who have been affected.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “A man in his 50s received serious injuries not believed to be life threatening. He has been taken to hospital. We are investigating this incident along with the Health and Safety Executive.”

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Sadly, we are aware of an incident this weekend which involved a contractor for Anglian Water. The health and safety of our staff and those working alongside us is of paramount importance and something underpinned by our values and who we are as a company.

“We are supporting the individual, and those around him, who have been affected and supporting all investigations that are taking place.”

Student flats are being built on the land as part of the first phase of a £150 million redevelopment of the area. Aberdeen Standard Investments previously agreed a contract with Bowmer and Kirkland to build the student housing.
