Charity shop moves closer to High Street

Charity department store: The Oxfam shop on Sincil Street is moving to bigger and brighter premises in Cornhill.

The Oxfam charity shops on Lincoln’s Sincil Street will be moving to brighter premises in Cornhill, in the former Post Office.

“The new shop is a much more pleasant and organised working space for our volunteers than either of the two old shops,” explained James Grigg, the shop’s deputy manager.

“It is also closer to the High Street, which we hope will be beneficial for us.

“With the shop being designed for us, we have great opportunities to show off all our stock too, with more room for display, meaning that many of the unique items we get donated will now have a chance to shine, and in turn raise more towards Oxfam’s work around the world.”

For the opening of the new shop on Saturday, January 28, local author Karen Maitland donated copies of her books which she will be available to sign, after sharing a few thoughts about writing, and time she spent in Africa.

The shop will sell brand new items to antiques and collectables, including kitchenware as used on Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word and umbrellas from artist Olafur Eliasson’s The Weather Project, as seen at Tate Modern.

Commercial agent Banks Long & Co let numbers 15-17 Cornhill to the charity, which were originally considered for a move a couple of years ago.

The new Oxfam Lincoln shop also includes a bookshop, a clothes department with menswear, womenswear, shoes, accessories and children’s clothes, music and DVDs, homewares, gifts, and fair trade food.
