Gainsborough X Factor star through to next round after eventually impressing Simon Cowell

They are just one step away from the live shows.

Lincolnshire’s Jack Remington, along with bandmate Joel Fishel, is through to the Judges’ Houses round on the X Factor and one step away from the live shows.

The duo, known on the show as Jack & Joel, first performed Christina Aguilera’s Ain’t No Other Man, which did not go down well with mentor Simon Cowell who demanded they sing another song in the Six Chair Challenge which was aired on ITV1 on Saturday night (October 14).

Jack & Joel then performed a rendition Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s Bang Bang before being given a chair into the next round of the competition which will see them jet off and sing at Simon Cowell’s house for a place in the live shows.

Cowell stopped the duo during their first song saying: “Okay guys, this is all wrong. I think this is what I call a great arena performance and I can tell why the crowd like it.

“I have a feeling that when we listen to this back on TV this is not going to sound very good as we thought, I want to hear something else.”

At the end of their second song, fellow judges Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger gave Jack & Joel a standing ovation before Cowell added: “That was bonkers, I love weird. Take the last chair.”

Jack, 22, went to school in Gainsborough before going on to Oxford University where he met Joel, 22, from London.

The two men are one of six groups to make it into the next round where Simon Cowell will choose three acts to represent him at the live shows in next weekend’s show (October 21 and 22).

If Jack & Joel go through, they will be one of 12 acts who will perform live every week, with the public voting on who should stay in the competition.
