Permanent gold postbox for Lincoln Paralympic medalist

The gold postbox in honour of Lincoln Paralympic medalist Sophie Wells will remain a permanent fixture in Castle Square, Royal Mail announced.

More than 110 gold postboxes were painted gold across the UK celebrating Olympic and Paralympic successes, all of which will remain gold permanently.

The Penfold postbox in Castle Square in Lincoln, outside the Magna Carta pub, has been painted gold in September.

Each post box will have a plaque which names the athlete and marks their gold medal achievement, or marks the location’s connection with London 2012.

The decision to keep the post boxes gold marks the first time in Royal Mail’s history that it has painted its iconic post boxes a different colour permanently to mark a historic achievement.
