Call for action after car flips in Cleethorpes crash

Residents on a street in Cleethorpes say they are becoming increasingly frustrated by speeding cars and regular crashes in the town after a car overturned overnight.

Humberside Police were called to Brereton Avenue in Cleethorpes at 2.50am on Wednesday, October 10 to reports of a car crashing into a van.

Police confirmed there were only minor injuries and two men have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Local resident Ellie Blakey posted on social media after waking up to a huge bang and said she feels drivers often speed in the area and called for action.

Ellie told Lincolnshire Reporter : “I live down here and you can hear cars speeding past throughout the night, there are always crashes.

“There was another at the weekend two blocks down that mounted the pavement and knocked a wall and letter box over. That was only two blocks down and it’s usually parked cars they are crashing into.

“No-one was injured [last night] luckily, but I walk my one-year-old daily down here and I literally am scared to do so.”

Other residents commented on social media also calling for harsher sentencing from the CPS, with one saying there have been four or five, or maybe more, accidents along the street in the past year.

Ellie also thinks action needs to be taken and she added: “I think that there should be a harsh penalty for this sort of crime. Rather than fines and let off, they should do time, they don’t realise they could wipe out families and have devastating consequences.

“They need to have speed cameras down here for definite, ones that actually work and crack down on them all. I stand at my door when seeing family members off and cars literally whizz past for you just to only get a glance, you won’t believe the speeds!”
