Grimsby home lights up to remember ‘beloved’ friend

A couple in Grimsby have covered their house in thousands of Christmas decorations to remember their beloved friend.

Martin and Tracey Connolly have been working on the spectacular display for the past month, ready for the big switch on at 5pm Saturday, December 1.

They have once again decorated their home on Grasby Crescent, Grimsby with thousands of dazzling lights to raise funds for St Andrew’s Hospice.

It is expected to be their biggest display yet, to celebrate what would have been their friend’s 40th birthday.

Dave Moreman, their friend, passed away in 2015 leaving his wife and three children who all miss him dearly.

All of the money raised by the Christmas Light Extravaganza will go towards the hospice which cared for Dave in his five-year battle with a rare form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma.

St Andrew’s is one of a handful of hospices which cares for both adult and children’s services on the same site.

Each year the hospice provides care and support for hundreds of patients, their families, friends and carers.

They have twelve en-suite adult rooms and four rooms for children to stay overnight, with accommodation available for families.

It costs around £5.5 million a year to run the free service, with only a small percentage of that money granted by statutory bodies.

Tracey and Martin are welcoming as many people as possible to visit their display. They hope that it will spread Christmas spirit and cheer throughout the holidays.
