Twelve local fundraisers have pledged to raise £5,000 by travelling 35 miles along the River Witham from Lincoln to Boston — in a pedalo.

The men from Boston and Sleaford are fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust Charity, which supports young people with cancer across the UK and Ireland.

The money raised will help fund specialist units within hospitals that are designed to feel like a home-from-home and give young people the very best chance of a positive outcome.

The fundraising event, which is being supported by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, is taking place on Saturday, June 16.

The twelve fundraisers will set off from Lincoln and journey along the River Witham to Boston.

Stephen Slater, organiser of the challenge said: “The journey should take around 12 hours, as we average about 3 miles an hour, but we can only pedal for 10 minutes before we need to change over.”

Stephen commented that the changeovers were proving slightly problematic, but nevertheless, he and the eleven other fundraisers are determined to complete the challenge.

Crew-mate Gareth Wilkins said: “We are supporting a really worthy cause this year and our fundraising has got off to a fantastic start.

“We have a street collection on Saturday June, 9 in Boston and along with our Just Giving page, we’re confident we’ll raise £5,000.”
