There has been a spike in shed and outbuilding burglaries in the Hartsholme estate of Lincoln, police warned.

Local policing teams received numerous reports of thefts overnight between Sunday, March 4 and Monday, March 5.

Burglaries were reported on Uffington Avenue, Hemswell Avenue, Bucknall Avenue and Shays Drive, with power tools and bicycles stolen.

Investigating officers are appealing to the public to get in touch if they have seen anything or have information.

They are also asking private CCTV owners to help by providing footage.

A spokesperson said: “If you believe you have been the victim of a burglary and haven’t yet reported it, please do so on 101 quoting the same incident number.”

People can get in touch on 101 quoting incident 49 of 5 March.

‘Closing down’ posters have been hoisted up at the Lincoln Toy R Us store at St Marks.

The national toy retailer fell into administration last week with the chain admitting it has been affected by lower consumer spending, inflation and online competition.

Questions were raised over the future of the Lincoln store, which sits on a site outlined for redevelopment.

The shop is now hosting a closing down sale, with signs reading ‘everything must go’.

It is not clear at the time of writing if and when a closing date has been decided, as week as how many jobs would be affected.

The Lincolnite contacted administrators Moorfields, but the company’s marketing team could not confirm a closing date for the store.
