There may be Easter eggs popping up on shop shelves, but the arrival of spring will be interrupted by a flurry of winter weather in Lincoln next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow in south Lincolnshire on Monday, February 26 and an extended warning covering Lincoln on Tuesday, February 27.

Lincolnshire County Council is lining up its gritters to battle snow and ice right up until mid-March as temperatures are expected to fall to, in some cases, double minus figures.

Gritters are ready to hit the road whenever they are needed.

Councillor Richard Davies, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “During the day, temperatures will struggle to rise above 0 and in the wind will feel like -4 or -5.

“There is also a risk of snow coming in from the east, although the forecast is uncertain. Where snow falls it will not thaw due to low temperatures and will settle quickly.”

Snow is expected in the south of the county between 4pm on Monday until just before midnight on Tuesday.

Met Office forecasters said snow showers may become persistent throughout the day Tuesday and there is the potential for travel delays.

They added “Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones may be affected.”

On Tuesday, the weather warning extends to the centre and north of the county between 3am and midnight.

Met Office forecasters said: “There is a potential for travel delays on roads, with some stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delays on cancellations to rail or air travel.”

Paint is not peeling off Lincoln’s new multi-million pound car park, said the City of Lincoln Council.

The council was responding to reports circulating online indicating that a section of the 1,000 space Lincoln Central Car Park car park on Broadgate was closed off due to ‘lifting paint’.

In a statement, the council said an area of the first floor of the car park had been closed off, on Tuesday but that it was for “daily cleaning”.

The Lincolnite found a significant section of the second floor was closed off on Thursday. The council said that was for cleaning purposes as well.

A portion on the second floor was closed on Thursday, February 22

The car park opened in November last year as part of the £30 million Lincoln Transport Hub.

City Services Team Leader at City of Lincoln Council, Rod Williamson, said: “We love our new car park and so do our users. Feedback has been amazing. This is why we have been cleaning it daily over the winter months.

“This provides our users with the best possible experience. The car park has been built to the highest of specifications and that includes the paintwork, which is performing perfectly.”
