Pupils from Saint Francis Special School in Lincoln got a taster of working life, with workshops from local businesses.

The HOPE day (Highlighting Opportunity for Progression into Employment), ran by the EBP (Education Business Partnership), saw 56 pupils enjoy interactive workshops.

Students had the opportunity to try baking, gardening, animal care and plumbing, all offering them work-based experience whilst supporting their personal and social development.

Businesses involved were Kier Services, City of Lincoln Council, Aaron Services, Rudies Roots, Pets at Home, Tesco, Forever Living and Liberty Health and Beauty.

Mr Colin Dagg, the Assistant Head Teacher of Upper School said: “It was an outstanding and a wonderful experience for all our students.

“HOPE day is an excellent example of how the EBP support the vocational educational system to empower students with Special Education Needs to progress into employment.”

Motorists coming to and from the south of Lincoln may face traffic delays as a street is closed for repair works.

Lincoln Lane, Thorpe on the Hill will close for four days between 7.30am and 6pm from Wednesday, December 3, weather permitting.

A diversion route will be in place via Middle Lane, A46, Moor Lane and Station Road during these times.

Dave Chetwynd, Principal Engineer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Reconstructing and resurfacing the road now will extend its lifespan and mean we won’t have to return to carry out further repairs for many years.”
