Hundreds of Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Cubs and Scouts groups from the city and surrounding villages gathered in uphill Lincoln for the 28th Lincoln District St George’s Day Parade.
On April 27, groups met at The Lawn beforehand, with the annual parade starting from Lincoln Castle grounds at 1pm.
From the castle, the children and group leaders marched alongside the district Scout band through the Bailgate and Minster Yard to Lincoln Cathedral for a special service.
After the hour-long service, the groups marched back through uphill Lincoln for parents, visitors and local residents.
A bus shelter which was suddenly removed from a stop in Lincoln will be replaced with funds from Access LN6.
The bus shelter on Hykeham Road disappeared earlier in April, and residents using the stop complained to Lincolnshire County Councillor for Bracebridge, Marc Jones.
Marc Jones contacted both the City of Lincoln and Lincolnshire County Council on Twitter to find out why the shelter had been removed.
He discovered that the shelter, managed by the City Council, had been removed due to being unsafe in high winds, but due to funding cuts, the City Council does not have the funds to repair it.
Lincolnshire County Council’s Access LN6 project will now take on the shelter’s repair costs in order to encourage more public transport travel in the area.
Councillor Richard Davies, Executive Councillor for Highways and Transportation at Lincolnshire County Council, said:
“The bus shelter on Hykeham Road was very well used by residents in the local area and it is unfortunate that the City of Lincoln Council has decided not to replace it.
“Through Access LN6, we’re doing lots of work in the local area to increase bus patronage and have decided to fund a replacement shelter on this site.
“We hope more residents will continue to use the bus in Hykeham, and will remain dry and warm thanks to this new shelter!”
Councillor Marc Jones added: “After residents highlighted this issue, it seemed like the quickest and most transparent way of getting to the bottom of things was through Twitter — and what a result!”
