Major resurfacing works are set to take place for five weeks on the B1189 in Metheringham and Blankney Barff.

The works will commence on Monday, October 15 and will last for five weeks. Works will be carried out from 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday and the road closure will be in place for working hours only.

The signed diversion route for eastbound traffic will be via the B1188 to Scopwick to the B1191 via Kirkby Green and back onto the B1189. For the westbound traffic, the diversion will be the eastbound diversion in reverse.

Access to the train station and also the Moorlands Trading Estate will be maintained at all times and will be accessible directly from Metheringham or via the diversion route. Pedestrian access will also be maintained as much as possible.

Councillor Richard Davies of Lincolnshire County Council Highways said: “As part of these works, we will be resurfacing parts of the B1189 in Metheringham and Blankney Barff to replace road material that is nearing the end of its serviceable life.

“We intend to do everything we can to minimise disruption. However, due to the nature of the works, there is likely to be some disruption so we ask for your continued patience while these works are carried out.”

Thousands of people came to celebrate the RAF’s centenary by walking or cycling their way across Lincoln throughout the summer.

The 100 Voices trails included four walking and four cycling trails, each marked by statues of the iconic RAF aircraft wings, which told the stories of both military and civilian men and women who had experienced service life first hand.

The trails were organised by Lincoln BIG and Visit Lincoln as part of a number of centenary celebrations in the city and ‘bomber county’.

Lincoln BIG’s RAF100 weekend, which included the popular 1940s weekend, was also a huge success attracting 50,000 visitors.

Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Matt Corrigan said: “A phenomenal 70,000 leaflets were given out and the Trails were also promoted on the 100 voices pages.”

“Online statistics revealed that 35,000 visits were made to Visit Lincoln’s trail pages. The popular routes according to the website’s findings were Proctor Trail, the Lancaster Trail and the Hawk Trail.”

The website also found that 59% of visitors to the trails came from outside of Lincoln such as Nottingham, Grimsby and London.

Mary Burton, a visitor from Nottingham, said: “I spent a couple of days in Lincoln, especially to do the Hawk and Spitfire trails.

“The idea of setting up the trails was a brilliant one and I really enjoyed doing them, especially as I got to explore lots of places in Lincoln for the first time too.”
