Five sculptures from the Lincoln Knights’ Trail have been on a quest to attract people to the city at King’s Cross Station in London.

The chosen knight sculptures aim to promote Lincoln as a key city to visit across summer by rail. Visit Lincoln and Lincoln BIG are present the event in the capital.

The five Lincoln Knights have been chosen to spread the word of the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln (May 20). This Saturday Lincoln will be holding lots of activities for the whole family to commemorate the day. Including the launch of the Lincoln Knights’ Trail.

The knights chosen to go to London include Knights Sheriff de la Haye (sponsored by Pipers Crisps), the Battle of Lincoln Knight (Independent Retailers), Knight of the Skies (Game Engineering), City Knight (Visit Lincoln/Lincoln City Football Club) and Guardian of the Forest (Investors in Lincoln).

Sponsors of the event include Virgin Trains, The National Archives, Lincolnshire County Council and East Midlands Trains.

Head of Visit Lincoln Lydia Rusling said: “Whilst in London handed out our new free What’s On Guide for Summer 2017 and, of course, information about how people can easily use train travel to get to Lincoln from Kings Cross.”

On Saturday, May 27 The Usher Gallery is holding an exclusive evening of history and entertainment to celebrate its 90th Birthday.

People after invited on the Bank Holiday Saturday to join The Usher Gallery in marking their special anniversary.

The evening will feature a talk by Dawn Heywood who is the collections officer at the Usher Gallery. Dawn will be sharing her own unique insight into the gallery’s 90 year history.

The celebrations will commence at 7pm until 9pm. Throughout the night guests can enjoy canapes, live 1920s music and the chance to see a selection of rarely seen items from the gallery’s collection on display.

Tickets cost £12 and can be bought either at The Collection Museum or The Usher Gallery or over the phone on 01522 555599.

The Usher Gallery is celebrating their 90th anniversary.

The gallery first opened its door on May 25 1927. It is a premier art gallery and is seen as a cultural landmark in Lincoln. Over the past 90 years, the gallery has offered to visitors the chance to enjoy the culture and art Lincoln has to offer.

The gallery has displayed work by local, national and international artists in exclusive shows, permanent displays and touring exhibitions.

Caroline Ward, site coordinator, said: “We’re very proud of what the gallery has achieved in the last 90 years, and this is a celebration of its past, but also a really exciting moment as we look to our future too. We’re committed to supporting homegrown Lincolnshire talent and also bringing national and international art to local people. We’ve had works by Manet, Picasso, Dali, Warhol to name but a few.

“This evening will look back further than our recent years to reveal the moments in history that have brought us to where we are now. It’s unmissable for art fans in Lincolnshire.”
