Next week, five sculptures from the Lincoln Knights’ Trail will ride to London Kings Cross Station in search of tourists and event goers.

The chosen knight sculptures aim to promote Lincoln as a key city to visit across summer by rail. Visit Lincoln and Lincoln BIG will present the event.

The knights will be positioned across Lincoln from May 20

The full 36 characterful knight sculptures will be in place in Lincoln City Centre from May 20 to September 3 2017. The event will show respect to the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln (May 20).

Sponsors of the event include Virgin Trains, The National Archives, Lincolnshire County Council and East Midland Trains.

With help from The Community Rail Partnership, part of Lincolnshire County Council, space has been secured at Kings Cross for the five knights including other promotional material.

On May 17 travellers entering Kings Cross station are being urged to watch out for the knights.

These include Knights Sheriff de la Haye (sponsored by Pipers Crisps), the Battle of Lincoln Knight (Independent Retailers), Knight of the Skies (Game Engineering), City Knight (Visit Lincoln/Lincoln City Football Club) and Guardian of the Forest (Investors in Lincoln).

The knights aim to promote the culture of Lincoln and highlight the city’s summer events programme.

The events programme showcases the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln, Domesday and the Battles and Dynasties exhibition.

The Domesday Book will be loaned to Lincoln to use in the exhibition from May 27. The National Archives are partners in the event and keepers of the book. This is the first time the book has been loaned to an exhibition outside London.

Kaye Robinson, Community Rail Officer, said: “With the once-in-a-lifetime visit of the Domesday Book and the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln coming up, Lincolnshire is the place to be in 2017.

“We’ll be encouraging everyone to come by rail to explore our rich heritage, beautiful landscapes, sandy beaches and charming county towns this year.”

Head of Visit Lincoln Lydia Rusling said: “Whilst in London we shall be handing out our new free What’s On Guide for Summer 2017 and, of course, information about how people can easily use train travel to get to Lincoln from Kings Cross.”

A train crash with a car on a level crossing, a four car pile-up and a lorry collision into a school were among the hair-raising scenarios faced by emergency services in one day near Lincoln.

Lincolnshire firefighters and partner emergency responders took part in an extreme training exercise based on real-life scenarios at the Waddington fire and rescue training facility throughout the day on Tuesday, May 9.

Over 100 specialists from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Police, East Midlands Ambulance (EMAS), LIVES and first responders were involved in the training exercise.

The aim was to develop lifesaving skills, decision making and practice rescue techniques based on real life scenarios.

Four scenarios had been created at the training centre, including a vodka factory explosion, a school scenario, a car crash and an overturned train.

The four scenarios were based on real life incidents that happened in the Lincolnshire area.

Those who took part in the training acting as the patients were all volunteers. Some volunteers worked for LIVES and other first responder organisations.

Throughout the day four teams made up of different emergency service groups rotated around each scenario. The object of the extreme situations was to push individuals to learn new techniques of working together and practice their skill set.

Last year was the first year this extreme training exercise took place.
