Some ten music tutors at a Lincoln music school and shop have kept their jobs, and 200 students can continue learning after finding a new premises.

The Music Tutor Ltd, which offers lessons to all ages and sells instruments and books, was formerly based on Tentercroft Street in Lincoln city centre.

The business was faced compulsory purchase as part of Lincolnshire County Council’s plans to build a new East-West link road.

A suitable new location for the business has been found in the form of Wyvern House on Kesteven Street.

After being told that the premises faced compulsory purchase, owner Nichola Beat was directed to Peter Banks from chartered surveyors Banks Long & Co, who was able to assist her in finding new premises.

After viewing 30 potential locations, an agreement was made with Lincolnshire County Council, who commissioned alterations to Wyvern House so that the company could move with as little disruption to their work as possible.

Nichola Beat, owner of The Music Tutor Ltd, said: “It’s a great relief for me, my staff and our pupils. We are now looking to a brighter future and to offering even more lessons. It’s a fresh start after living with the threat of having to move for so long.”

Peter Banks said: “Nichola needed to stay in the city centre to make life easy for her clients. She required ground floor, disabled access and soundproofed space. I talked to the county council and we are grateful that they commissioned the necessary alterations and that there should be no disruption to Nichola’s business.”

Nichola originally bought the business from Rose Music when its owners retired and was based in Tentercroft Street since 2001. Pupils of all ages are taught to play piano, guitar, keyboard, drums, flute and clarinet.

The Music Tutor Ltd also offers musical theatre and singing lessons as well as selling musical instruments and books.
