A football supporter forgot to sign on at the police station when England played in South Africa during the World Cup, a court heard.

Lincoln magistrates were told that Scott Daniel Murphy was given a three-year football banning order in 2008, which means he has to attend at the police station whenever England plays a game.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, said he failed to turn up at the police station during England’s matches in the international tournament and surrender his passport.

Murphy (23) of Allenby Close, Lincoln, admitted breaching the order on May 30 and June 6. Ali Zaki, representing, said Murphy forgot because he doesn’t have a passport, and he is no longer interested in football.

Magistrates were advised that in considering the penalty they should think of his conduct and any misbehaviour that might have been committed at the time of the failure to report.

Murphy had not been involved in any bad conduct. He simply forgot.

The bench fined Murphy £25 on each failure to report, and ordered him to pay £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Shoplifter Richard Paul Box made a mistake when he stole more than £200 of designer fragrances, a court heard.

Lincoln magistrates were told the 23-year-old was spotted in Boots where he picked up Chanel, Armani, Diesel, and Paul Smith perfumes which he put into a friend’s bag.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, said he was stopped as he left the store and all the items were returned.

“They also found in his possession a memory card and a mobile phone cover which had been taken from the Carphone Warehouse,” Mr Wood said.

Box of Escombe View, Lincoln, admitted theft on May 12.

He said there was no reason for the theft other than his own stupidity. “It was a mistake and I’ve learned my lesson. These things were not mine to take,” he said.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay £40 costs, and a £15 victim surcharge.
