With only 23 days left until its grand opening to the public, recruitment and building work is well underway at Tokyo Lincoln on Silver Street.

During the recruitment process there were over 240 applicants that were going for 80 vacancies at the club. All the slots have nearly been filled except for a few promotional staff.

A quarter of the total tickets which were sold in advance went in record time, in under 30 minutes. The other 600 will be available on the door and are predicted to be in very high demand.

The building is starting to take shape with the decking for the outdoor terrace in full swing and many of the toilet cubicles fitted.

The club will be running two trial nights prior to its August 26 opening for friends and family.

Nigel Holliday, Business Development Director for Tokyo Industries, said: “We have nearly sorted out the regular seven-day night listing and are currently in the process of securing more live acts.

“The club is really starting to come along now but it is still a building site.

“We have all the furniture and sound systems built off of the premises and then everything comes in at the last minute. The stage and the bars are really starting to take form and we are running to schedule.

“Moda will be a regular event and take place every Friday at the end of the month. They have secured headliners for the next three months.

“I cannot divulge who or when, but we have some big acts planned”

Plans for an Olympic-themed Lincoln In Bloom will be proposed in an attempt to give the city centre a truly Olympic feel next year.

The plans will see Lincoln’s streets decorated with enhanced floral displays, Olympic banners and street dressing throughout the summer of 2012.

Lincoln In Bloom is a Lincoln BIG project which tries to get businesses involved in making the city streets look a colourful and vibrant environment.

Businesses can sign up to purchase hanging baskets, floral cascades and displays, of which then there company name or logo is displayed on.

City Councillor Neil Murray said: “We’re delighted to be working closely with Lincoln BIG and Visit Lincoln to make our city a big part of next year’s Olympic celebrations.

“With the Flame passing through Lincoln, we’re a significant step on its journey towards lighting the cauldron in London, so we’ll be doing our best to make Lincoln look and feel bright and welcoming in celebration of the Olympic year.”

Lincoln’s 2012 expectations

Matt Corrigan, Lincoln BIG Chief Executive, said: “Next summer will be a particular important time for the city.

“We hope that, by then, economic conditions are starting to improve and, with the dualling of the A46 expected to be completed next spring, that Lincoln will be more accessible to more visitors than ever before.

The Olympics also coincide with the Lincoln Cathedral Flower Festival which will be held August 2012.

Phil Hamlyn Williams, Cathedral Chief Executive, said: “The Flower Festival is one of the highlights in our calendar and, with farmers’ markets, street entertainment festivals and events all summer long, we really think that this is a great opportunity to put the city on the map”

Everyone who has participated in Lincoln In Bloom over the past few years, and businesses interested in becoming sponsors, are being invited to a summer drinks reception in the Cathedral Centre Garden on the evening of August 11, 2011.
