Six months of work to improve traffic flow along Outer Circle Road and Wragby Road will begin this weekend.

The £2 million scheme in one of the most congested areas of the city will start on Sunday, February 11, creating longer lanes along Outer Circle Road on the approach to Wragby Road.

The Wragby Road carriageway between Wolsey Way and Outer Circle Road will also be widened to accommodate four lanes: two westbound and two eastbound.

Other improvements include full carriageway reconstruction on Wragby Road, Outer Circle Road, Outer Circle Drive and Wolsey Way, along with construction of an additional eastbound lane on Wragby Road past Wolsey Way.

How the works will affect traffic in the area:

  • Access from Wolsey Way to Wragby Road/Bunkers Hill will be closed for the duration of the project. For residents, access to Wolsey Way will be via the B1182 Nettleham Road. As part of this, traffic signal timings will be altered to reflect the increased use for residents on Glebe Park.
  • A right-turn ban in and out of Deacon Road from Outer Circle Road will be in place for a period of up to four weeks. The diversion route will be signed via Bishop’s Road.
  • Narrowed lane widths on Outer Circle Road and Wragby Road for the duration of the works.
  • For a number of weekends during the works, a left-turn ban from Wragby Road onto Outer Circle Road will be in place from Friday night at 8pm to 5am on Monday only. Advance signage will be in place two weeks beforehand, and the diversion route will be signed via Greetwell Road.
  • Towards the end of the scheme, Wragby Road, Outer Circle Road, Outer Circle Drive and Wolsey Way will be closed overnight for four weeks (only one section in any one night). Working hours will be from 8pm to 5am nightly.

Signed diversions will be in place throughout the six months of works.
