Motorists are being warned of icy stretches overnight on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths in Lincolnshire.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice, valid from 6pm on Wednesday, January 31 until 10am on Thursday, February 1.

According to the forecaster, temperatures will quickly fall overnight to form ice, with lows of 2° C predicted.

Areas in the north of the county, such as Scunthorpe and Grimsby, should miss the ice.

Chief forecasters at the Met Office said: “Following a spell of rain, sleet and snow, temperatures will fall quickly allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces.

“Further showers of rain, sleet and snow will follow in the west on Thursday morning, potentially diluting overnight treatments.

“Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

“Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible.”
