More than 1,000 people put their skates on and eagerly became the first to glide, slip and slide on the city’s Christmas ice rink on its opening weekend.

Families turned out in force for the opening on Saturday, November 26, where a ribbon cutting and performances from local dancers marked the opening of the popular attraction.

Lincoln BIG Events & Promotions Manager Michael Armstrong said: “It was a fabulous opening day at the ice rink. No-one was going to wait for the mercury to fall when we had our very own Winter Wonderland in the heart of the city. Everyone had a great time.

“The ice rink always adds extra sparkle to the festive period and it got off to a great start. We are encouraging other people to book their sessions and make the most of this attraction, which will stay in place right up until January 1.”

Colleague Events Assistant Jess Wickham said: “We’ve got 45 minute sessions and deals to suit every member of the family. Scores of school groups have already booked their sessions, as well as many family groups and individuals.

“We’ve also had our first corporate group booking and we would encourage more firms to consider the ice rink, as an unusual festive “works outing” too.

“We would like to remind people that we that we offer dedicated family and quiet sessions for young families and skaters with disabilities on Tuesdays at 10am and on Thursdays at 1pm.”

Tickets for these sessions can be bought at the ticket office at the ice rink. The ice rink will be open daily from 10am to 9pm, closing on Christmas Day. It will operate from 11am to 5pm on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
