A 65-year-old local woman was seriously sexually assaulted by a man described as in his late 20s to early 30s. The assault took place on June 30, at around 7pm in Viking Way, at the back of Bentley Drive, leading off Vauxhall Road in Bracebridge Heath.
The woman was walking along the road when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her. The man was wearing a short-sleeved round-necked white T-shirt and blue jeans, with white thin-soled trainers. He was carrying a black or dark brown nylon shoulder bag.
“We are warning people in the area, if possible, not to go out walking alone in the evening. If you have, to then make sure you have a mobile phone, and obviously call 999 immediately in an emergency situation,” said Lincolnshire Police spokesman James Newall.
“We need the community’s help and if anyone witnessed the incident, saw the suspect in the area at the time, or who believes they have any relevant information then please call us immediately [0300 111 0300].
“We will be increasing our patrols in the area in the evening and beat teams will be on the streets in the day time tomorrow,” Newall added.
— Update on July 3 @ 1:19pm: Police are appealing for witnesses in the area at the time of the incident. Detective Inspector Suzanne Davies from Lincolnshire Police is investigating the case:
“The Viking Way at Bracebridge Heath is a popular area for dog walkers. I am appealing for members of the public who were in the area from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday 30th June 2010, to come forward.
“They may think that that they have nothing useful to report, but it is important for us to speak to everyone that was in the area at the time. I would like to reassure the public this is a very unusual type of offence and that we have increased foot patrols in the area to ensure the area is safe for everyone to use”.
Police clarified that the incident was not a rape, but it was a serious sexual assault.
