Police name woman who died after she was found on Portland Street [U3]

Developing: A local woman aged 43 woman died hours later after she was found lying on Portland Street.

Update 3 @ 2:03pm on August 31Police have named the 43-year-old woman as Lithuanian national Virginija Diksiene, of Hermit Street, Lincoln.

Police are continuing with their enquiries, and are treating the death as unexplained.

Update 2 @ 2:05pm on August 28 — The post mortem carried out on the local woman was inconclusive. Further tests would establish the cause of death.

A 60-year-old man who was arrested in relation to this case has been bailed, pending further police enquiries.

It will be some weeks before the results of the further tests will be known.

Update 1 @ 5:12pm on August 27 — The woman was local and aged 43.

Police are treating the death as unexplained until the results of the post mortem carried out at 4pm today indicate a cause of death.

A woman was found lying in the passageway between Portland Street and Hermit Street in Lincoln at around 11:13pm on Thursday, August 26.

A member of the public spotted her, and called police. She was taken to Lincoln County Hospital, where she died in the early hours Friday, August 27.

Police are investigating the circumstances of her death and a post mortem will be conducted later in the day.

There is currently a police scene guard at the passageway where the woman was discovered.
