19 Lincolnites up for county sports awards

Sports pride: 19 Lincolnites have been shortlisted for the Lincolnshire Sports Awards, taking place this November.

Nineteen Lincolnites have been shortlisted for the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2010, which will take place on November 11 at the Lincolnshire Showground.

The awards are an annual event organised by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership to recognise sportsmen and women across the county in sport and physical activity.

Three nominees for each of the categories have been shortlisted, and the winners will be announced by BBC broadcaster John Inverdale at the event.

The Lincoln athletes, coaches, and clubs nominated this year are:

■ Holly Crosby, Elizabeth Gray, and Hayley Williams (pictured) for the Young Sportswoman of the Year Award

■ Georgie Twigg for Sportswoman of the Year Award

■ Andrew Skinner (who is now climbing Kilimanjaro) shortlisted for Disabled Sportsperson of the Year

■ Formula BMW star Jack Harvey is up for Young Sportsman of the Year

■ Wheelchair basketball player Richard Sargent for Young Disabled Sportsperson of the Year

■ Coach Gary Quittenton for Canoeing, and Paul Walden for Football are up for Coach of the Year

Birchwood Colts Football Club and Lincoln Canoe Club are both vying for the title of Club of the Year

■ Daniel Bishop from University of Lincoln, Jon Foot from Branston Community College and Michelle Rook from Sincil School are shortlisted for Educator of the Year Award

■ Richard Evans, Dr Laurence Oliver and Frank Richardson are up for the Lifetime Achievement Award

■ Andy Fisher from Dance Crazy in North Hykeham, and the University of Lincoln’s Healthy Campus have both been shortlisted for Contribution to Physical Activity

Tickets for the awards ceremony are still available for £30 each, which include a 3-course meal and a reception, and can be booked via this form.
