Beam! festival makes return to Lincoln

Smile: Lincoln’s biggest children’s festival will be back with more street entertainment this summer.

Last year’s child-friendly event will be back this summer to bring music, dance and drama to Lincoln’s High Street.

Across the county, preparations are being made for Beam! International 2011, Lincoln’s Children and Young People’s Festival, organising plenty of activities for families.

Beam! 2011 will take place on July 1 to 9 and will see various European street theatre companies, performers, live bands and grime artists.

Youngsters can also take part in the festival as well as watch — they too can perform or even try event management.

The event is being once again organised by Lincoln BIG, who will be contacting all 271 primary and junior schools in the county to offer them the chance to perform.

There will also be performances from the 13-19 age groups and involvement from Lincolnshire County Council, Lincoln Drill Hall, Catch 22, The Collection, Family Action and the University of Lincoln.

Joint Artistic Director Leanne Taylor said: “This has already led to the creation of a Young Person’s beam! Advisory Group and members have suggested a sub-festival within beam! International 2011, known as The Underage Festival.”
