Two die in A46 Nettleham crash

Crash: Two local people died and two were injured after a car crash on the A46 at Nettleham.

Two local people have died and two are in hospital treated for injuries after a car crash on the A46 at Nettleham on Thursday night.

— Later update: Police said the deceased are Sara Horsley (47), of Lincoln Road, Dunholme and Paul Payne (42), of Plough Hill, Caistor.

Just after 7.10pm on February 10 emergency services were called to the A46 at Nettleham, after a blue Vauxhall Astra collided with a purple Citroen Xsara.

Four people were injured and taken to Lincoln County Hospital. One of the vehicles had caught fire and was extinguished by Fire and Rescue.

A 47-year-old Lincoln woman, who was a passenger in the Astra, died a short time later at County Hospital.

The driver of the Astra was one of those injured and is currently at Lincoln County Hospital.

Another passenger from the Astra, believed to be a local woman, was injured and is currently at Lincoln County Hospital.

The driver of the Citroen Xsara, believed to be a 42-year-old Caistor man, died later at Lincoln County Hospital.

These two fatalities bring to eight the number of people killed so far this year on Lincolnshire’s roads, compared with four at the same time last year.

The A46 to Nettleham was closed completely immediately after the crash and the road was re-opened about 11pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision itself or anyone who was in the area and saw either the blue Vauxhall Astra or the purple Citroen Xsara before the collision to contact the witness hotline on: 01522 558 855.
