Struggle: A 75-year-old woman tried to stop a man from stealing her bag outside the Co-Op on Burton Road.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward after a 75-year-old woman was robbed of her bag outside the Burton Road Co-Operative.

The incident took place on Thursday, May 12 just before 9pm.

The victim, a 75-year-old local woman who had just left the store, was tackled by a man who grabbed hold of her black shoulder bag.

In a brief struggle, the woman tried to hang on to her bag but fell to the ground. The offender made off on a bicycle and disappeared from view down Gray Street.

Police say the victim was shaken by this and has suffered from shoulder pain, but she did not require hospital treatment.

The bag contained miscellaneous items including a pink mobile telephone, £45 cash, a red purse, keys, credit cards and a bus pass.

The offender is described as white about 6ft tall, aged late 20s to early 30s.

He was sporting about two days growth of beard. He was wearing a black puffa style jacket with a fluorescent stripe on it, blue jeans and a baseball cap with a white motif on it.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information about who the offender may be, is asked to contact PC Caroline Turner of Lincoln Police at 0300 111 0300.
